Jean Rollin: The Collaborators (Nicolas Devil)

It would be a grievous oversight for me not to mention Artist Nicolas Devil (Nicolas Deville) and the mind-blowing literary collaboration he did with Jean Rollin in 1967 called Saga De Xam. Devil is, of course, one of the first and most famous French erotic comic artists and Saga De Xam (with text by Rollin) is one of his greatest works. For some scans to the this work please visit the fantastic Zines blog and for more on Devil please check here and here and here.

Many thanks for posting these links. Groovy stuff! Someday, I must acquire a copy of Xam (add it to the list!) but the scans are great to see in the meantime.

Particularly interested to see that the great Philippe Druillet contributed to this project. Druillet was the graphic artist behind the Art Nouveau-style posters for 'Viol', 'Frisson' and 'Nue'; and the multi-breasted bat-goddess backdrop in 'Viol' has to be his work. (I believe he has a role in the film as well.) The English language translations of Druillet's psychedelic epics 'Lone Sloane/Delirius' and 'Yragael/Urm' were among my most prized possessions as a teen, long before I'd heard of Rollin, so I was delighted to learn that these two heroes had worked together.
